You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!
It is recommended to come in every 6 months for a thorough examination and
cleaning. This helps to reduce unexpected and problems you cannot feel and
decrease your costs long term. Come in immediately when experiencing pain,
bleeding gums, heavy plaque buildup or loose teeth as this is not normal.
We help you stop the cycle of pain or bleeding gums and we listen to your
concerns. We take the time to get to know you, ask questions about your concerns,
tailor your treatment needs accordingly and provide education by showing pictures
and discussing the treatment options to develop a plan together. SKD provides a
comprehensive evaluation of your mouth along with thorough X-rays, gum pocket
evaluation, advanced oral cancer screening called Identafi, photographs of your
teeth, electronic health forms, tailored cleaning with our hygienist & homecare
instructions & products to try. We want to also make your visit as comfortable as
possible so we provide blankets, pillows, noise canceling headphones and music
on pandora. For follow up appointments we provide email & text reminders as well
as the opportunity to view & pay your bill online. We understand convenience is
important. We look forward to the opportunity to provide an experience and care
we know are different.
Implants are titanium posts that replace the roots of your teeth. They are a
replacement part for when a tooth is lost or needs to be removed due to root
fractures, failed root canals, loose teeth, broken teeth or decayed teeth. A crown is
placed on top of the implant after it is healed and when cared for properly an
implant can last a lifetime.
Over time the neighbor teeth can drift into the space where the tooth was lost and
could start tipping sideways. Also the tooth above can start drifting down, a process
called supereruption, if there is no longer pressures placed on this tooth during
chewing. The bone in the space of the missing tooth will also resorb or shrink in
causing root exposure on the neighbor teeth with the possibility of sensitivity to air
& brushing. Also if your bite is not adjusted to balance in the pressures evenly in
your mouth after the tooth is removed you could cause more damage to the
neighbor teeth i.e. fractures, resorption/root exposure causing sensitivity to air or
brushing or sensitivity on chewing
There are many ways to improve your smile and it depends on what your main goal
is. If you are wanting to brighten your smile and change the color, whitening is a
great option. If you want to change the shape and color there a several options to
consider from tooth colored bonding to veneers. If you feel you are hiding your
smile because of crowding or turned teeth, worn down teeth, or spacing of your
teeth there are also several options to consider such as Invisalign clear aligner
trays to straighten teeth or cosmetic veneers and crowns to give you a whole new
Absolutely. Sometimes the stain is caused from the things we eat and drink. Coffee,
tea & wine being the worst culprits. Other times it can be that you have not visited
the dental office in a long time and it is time for a cleaning to remove the tartar/
plaque buildup & staining. We have a great stain removing ultrasonic tool that our
hygienist will use to remove the surface staining. For internal staining from the
coffee, tea, wine & foods your best option is whitening. We offer in office whitening,
custom take home whitening trays or pre-filled disposable trays. Ask about our
lifetime whitening program.
Yes, we love new patients. We see new patients everyday in our practice and it is a
huge compliment when someone choses our office. See our new patient section to
find out more information.
We use Invisalign clear aligner trays as they are virtually invisible, easy to use and
you change the trays every 1.5 weeks. The length of treatment varies based on
your needs. Visit our dental services page and learn about Invisalign. Also see our
before and after photos of actual patients that have used the trays.
Yes we accept all insurance and are providers for several insurances. We file all
insurance claims on your behalf. See our financial page for more information or
look us up by provider name on your insurance website.
Fluoride is found naturally in the soil, water, and food and also on your teeth.
Fluoride is beneficial as it remineralizes or strengthens your tooth to help protect
your teeth from breaking down from a cavity especially at the gumline and in the
grooves of your teeth. With so many drinking bottled water or having reverse
osmosis water systems in their house the positive effects of fluoride in the water is
NOT there protecting your teeth. So we offer a fluoride varnish which is painted on
the tooth surfaces which we recommend for all children and adults.
We offer whitening, bonding, tooth colored fillings, veneers, crowns, full mouth
reconstructions, smile designs and night guard therapy to protect your pearly
You will need to visit us for an examination and X-rays to determine if a true
infection exists. The signs of a bacterial issue affecting the nerve of a tooth are:
pain on chewing, pain when tapping the tooth, cold sensitivity that lasts more than
10 seconds, pain when changing postural positions, aching or throbbing that wakes
you from your sleep or starts on its own. Seek dental care immediately to avoid
swelling and other harmful side effects
Only through an evaluation and diagnosis by our office will you know if in fact you
have gum disease. Signs and symptoms of gum disease include: bleeding gums,
red or inflammed gum tissue, heavy tartar buildup with red gums, bad breath, loose
teeth, bad taste in the mouth.
Night guards are custom appliances built to protect your teeth from themselves and
the forces/pressures you place on the teeth from grinding & clenching which is
driven by the muscles of your jaw & face. Each night guard is custom fit for a
patient based on the needs and the type of damage they have done to their teeth
most commonly during sleep. The most common reason for a night guard is due to
pain in the jaw joint and/or muscles of the jaw & face. Other reasons for needing a
night guard are for signs seen during examination such as recession, microcracking
of the teeth, sensitivity to cold, worn down teeth, broken teeth, fracture lines in
teeth, headaches, neck pain and poor sleep. Many people realize they clench their
teeth during the day though many do not even notice the damage to their teeth
from clenching or grinding and most are unaware they do this while sleeping. We
look for the signs of the damage and educate you on our findings and together
determine if a night guard is beneficial for you. We also provide a therapy with your
night guard to follow you while using to verify it is comfortable, the pain is
decreasing and we make sure to keep your bite balanced during the process.
We do bill to medical insurance when necessary. Especially when working with
nightguards and oral appliance therapy for sleep apnea patients.
X-rays are very necessary and help us see issues all of the anatomy (especially
bone and root) that is not detectable below the gumline during a mouth exam We
offer digital x-rays which is a very minimal amount of radiation. We recommend xrays
be taken at least once a year for your benefit and more often if you have
ongoing issues such as cavities and fractures.
Yes we do. We understand that emergencies do arise and our goal is to see you
the same day of your emergency call if possible.
We can assess your risk for sleep apnea, if you have not been diagnosed yet, by
having you answer a series of questions and doing a visual mouth exam. If you are
found to have risk for sleep apnea we can help you setup a home sleep study and
work with your team of physicians to develop a plan for treatment if needed. We
can provide oral appliance therapy if you are found to have mild or moderate sleep
apnea and are intolerant or do not prefer to wear a CPAP machine
We start seeing children as early as one year of age, mostly to educate the parents
on homecare instructions and what to watch for as teeth erupt. Most children will
become cooperative for a dental exam about age 2 and above. If you start noticing
dark spots on their teeth or redness or bleeding of their gums or they complain of
pain you should call us immediately. Once children are comfortable having dental
exams and cleanings done we recommend they be seen every 6 months for an
exam, x-rays, cleaning and fluoride treatment.
